Fried Chicken Batter Flavourings

The No.1 most important flavouring for your fried chicken batter is salt! You must add enough to lift the other flavours in the batter and of the chicken itself.

Another flavouring to consider is the slightly controversial MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) this is a flavour enhancer which makes things taste more savoury and really lifts the flavour of fried batters a lot.

Pepper and Chilli can add a pleasant kick, add as little or as much as you like but test the batter before cooking all your chicken to make sure you haven't over done it!

Herbs. Dried herbs are best for chicken batters. Oregano, basil, tarragon, chives, and parsley all work well.

Spices. Cumin is a real all rounder and really lifts the flavour of all meats. Cardamom, cloves and cinnamon have strong flavours which if used sparingly can add a "what was that?" moment to your chicken.

Garlic and ginger powder are great but not too much as they are much stronger than their fresh counterparts and can overpower everything else. Again the golden rule is to test, taste and adjust your seasonings!
